As part of the Idle No More movement against the Harper government, 200 people from both indigenous and non-indigenous communities rallied in Lethbridge--on the corner of Galt Gardens next to the "pagoda" on Friday, 11 January 2013.
The mood was buoyant despite the -10C cold, with homemade placards and dancing in between the speeches from the Blackfoot and Blood tribal members. There was also solidarity from public service unions and socialists.
The main message was that we should get organized against the racist legislation imposed on us from Ottawa. The rights of land, women and the environment are being attacked. We need to unite to defeat the Harper government.
